Approach to Counseling
I believe that a trusting relationship with my clients is of the utmost importance. Within the therapeutic relationship, I focus on creating an atmosphere of warmth and acceptance so my clients can feel free sharing and exploring whatever is troubling them. I offer client-centered therapy, which emphasizes strengths, growth, potential, and an inherent ability to transcend life’s challenges. For couples, I offer emotionally-focused therapy, which is an approach that focuses on our innate need for connection and reshaping patterns of conflict we tend to get stuck in with our loved ones. No matter who walks into my office, I work to build a strong, supportive, and trusting relationship with my clients so they can bravely identify and confront the difficulties all humans face at some point in life.

Insurances and Fees
I currently accept Blue Cross/Blue Shield, Aetna, Penn State Student Resources, and UPMC insurance plans. It’s possible that your insurance card may have one of these carrier names and/or logos on it, but that does not mean that counseling will be covered. Therefore, please check with your insurance provider to make sure that I am in-network prior to attending your first appointment.
If you plan to use out-of-network benefits, I can provide you with forms to submit for reimbursement.
If you plan to pay out-of-pocket, the initial appointment costs $160 and each subsequent session costs $140. I accept cash, credit, or check payments in person or through my secure client portal. Payments are collected at the conclusion of each session. I will file all insurance claims under “Brad Carmichael, MS.Ed, LPC, LLC.”
There is no charge for cancellations made more than 24 hours before your appointment. If you do not notify me within this time, then I reserve the right to collect a cancellation fee of up to 100% of the service fee.
